It was in my handPosted: April 13, 2002
Category: CollectiblesWhile I was looking for some early Episode II merchandise on the shelves of Wal-Mart, I found the Yoda / Count Dooku LEGO set sitting on the top shelf. I took one down, and walked to the nearest "Can't find the price? Check here!" scanner. I scanned the UPC code, and - as expected - it rang up "Please see an associate for help". I knew what that meant. Wal-Mart has programmed their computers so that any Episode II merchandise scanned before the April 23 street date comes up as "Not for sale". I guess I can't hate Wal-Mart for this one, especially since they can get fined $10,000 for every figure that is sold before the release date. Without a price tag on the set, there was no way I would have been able to get a cashier to override this one. I had to reluctantly put the set back on the shelf, and walk away.
Moral of the story: The Yoda/Dooku set is out there. It will be released in 9 more days. I have seen one in person. They do exist.
In other non-Yoda news, a K-mart that I searched had a couple of Attack of the Clones deluxe figures sitting on the shelf. I took a "Mace Windu with Blast-Apart Battle Droid!" and checked out. It was $10.99. The computer let me buy it, so I can't complain too much. At least I found one Episode II figure early. Even if it isn't Yoda.
